I’m Ugly and I’m Proud: The Self-Acceptance Key

Series: I Got The Keys

Pastor Andy Thompson reminded us that after Adam and Eve sinned, shame caused them to hide behind coverings. In the same way, we often hide behind “layers” like perfectionism, busyness, pride, or the approval of others to avoid facing our true selves.

The key to freedom is self-acceptance—not celebrating our flaws, but honestly acknowledging them and allowing God to transform us. God already knows our struggles and imperfections, and because of Christ, there is no condemnation for those who belong to Him (Romans 8:1).

When we stop pretending to have it all together, we can embrace God’s grace, grow through His Word, and become who He created us to be. We don’t have to hide our past because our identity is found in Christ, not our mistakes.

Bottom Line: Real freedom begins when we stop hiding, accept ourselves with humility, and trust God’s grace to continue changing us.
